Re: Coalfield Progress 2008 Football Preview
I agree, and this kid needs direction. He would probably feel lost without football and that in turn could lead to a downward spiral. He needs a path to follow, and maybe Jimbo and the Raiders can help provide that for him. I hope it works out for them. I hate to see wasted talent, in any aspect of life.
Re: Coalfield Progress 2008 Football Preview
I personally don't know what problems arose or happened at PV with this kid. But atleast if he is going to play football anywhere he has to attend school regularly and keep his grades up. If he plays any other sports he will have to continue making good grades. I believe he also plays basketball. So really sports has its good points too. He is a kid, not an adult and really he is not hurting anyone with where ever he chooses to play football at. I wish him the best.
Also when we transferred Chris last year, there was alot we had to change and do to make him eligible. We have family in most of the LPD area and we thought Chris could just move in with them. But that was not the case, whoever has custody of the minor then they have to physically move. Apart of that move states in the rules that it has to be a permanent domain. Once the move takes place the principal of that school has to make a visit to the home they move into. Then the student has to attend that school for three full days then he is eligible to play sports.
We had to change our voters registration, license address, and other stuff to show proof to the administration. Our light bill, cable bill. All of this proof had to be in the name of the custodial parent of the minor transferring. There is alot to it, atleast it was for us. I also had to talk to the VHSL guy who was over the rules.
Coach Adams will go through all of this too, cause you don't want to risk your whole football team based on one kid wanting to play for you. There are rules that state what you have to do to be eligible and those same rules state how you are not eligible.
Re: Coalfield Progress 2008 Football Preview
With this kid gone from PV, I don't think it will hurt PV in any way. There are kids to fill his shoes, Dakota Cantrell, Tyler Bray are two that I know of that would be good backs for PV. I don't know anyother players personally but I am sure with all their numbers there are some to fill the void. I wish PV and the rest of the LPD the best.
Re: Coalfield Progress 2008 Football Preview
Well as a Burton Fan and Parent I can say not everyone is pulling for this or pinning their hopes on ONE kid to take them all the way this year. As for what went down, I know from a staff member at DB what happened in the Coach's office and it had nothing to do with any info given by anyone from PV.
You are absolutely correct, this young man needs to get his life together, and it will not happen on the football field. I am shocked, given the circumstances my child would not have the options to play any sports. Parents need to stand up and take some of the blame for their children. This young man was given a gift and is a wonderful athlete however I find it hard to believe that he has suddenly had a "coming to Jesus" moment and the garbage that he brought to the locker room at PV will not follow him to Burton. I know several players are concerned with this.
You can say what you want about Burton but one thing is for certain, they are a bonded group and get along well, there is not in fighting and no superstars on this team, (until now maybe.) And they want to keep it that way. I would hate to see his attitude rube off on those around him. I think he should be allowed to get an education wherever that may be, but when you break rules like the ones that were broken I think every coach should stand up and say "not at my school", it only shows that it doesn't matter what you do in life, or how you live, as long as you are a gifted athlete you can shop around and someone will take you.
That is just my view on things tonight.
Re: Coalfield Progress 2008 Football Preview
I agree that sports can be a positive and its good to help someone have a path, but call me jaded, I don't think that's the issue here. I hope I'm wrong.
Re: Coalfield Progress 2008 Football Preview
Who cares where the boy plays. Lets just play some football.
Re: Coalfield Progress 2008 Football Preview
If I am not mistaken Malcolm is friends with several Burton players already so I don't think him coming into the locker room is going to be a problem.
Re: Coalfield Progress 2008 Football Preview
Well maybe you are right, I have no info about what all has happened in the past at PV with this kid. Nor am I in a position to make the call whether he plays or not. It is none of my business either. All we can do is hope that this kids life does a complete turn around. Only time will tell.

No doubt This has been the longest week ever it seems.
Re: Coalfield Progress 2008 Football Preview
He is friends with quite a few players, and they like him off the field for the most part but they all know a lot about what has happened and his attitude as well. Kids are different on the field for the most part, we all know this. Even his friends think he may effect the teams attitude some what is he acts as he did at PV.
I really think given what has happened sports should not be an option. I know he and Coach Adams had a heart to heart and I truly hope he has changed over the past few weeks. But honestly do you really think you can turn around years and years of behavior in a matter of a few days or weeks? It's not about giving a second, third or fourth chance, it's about when do you stop and say "look you have had chance after chance and blew it"?
